About the opportunity
At Axon, we are on a mission to Protect Life, exploring society's most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software.
As Director of Federal Policy, you will serve as the strategic quarterback at the center of our federal engagement, mapping assets, aligning engagements, and positioning Axon as the trusted technology partner for key agencies.
This individual contributor role sits inside the legal organization, embeds closely with the business, and engages frequently with executive leadership.
You will lead through expertise, relationships, and influence rather than direct reports, shaping how law enforcement operates and how agencies keep communities safe through technologies ranging from TASER devices to body-worn cameras and AI-powered software.
Key responsibilities
- Drive a multi-year federal government affairs strategy that advances Axon's priorities across the executive branch and relevant Congressional committees.
- Conduct a systematic audit of Axon's federal relationships, internal champions, external advisors, agency allies, Hill contacts, and third-party partners.
- Coordinate across Axon's legal, communications, product, sales, and executive teams to ensure unified and strategic engagement.
- Cultivate and maintain a high-quality network of relationships with senior officials, Congressional staff, and relevant organizations.
- Manage and direct external consultants, advisors, and outside government affairs firms to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Monitor and analyze the legislative, regulatory, and executive branch policy environment to translate developments into actionable intelligence.
- Represent Axon externally at federal conferences, industry forums, and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience with a track record in public service across senior staff, government affairs, or policy roles.
- Deep Hill roots with meaningful time spent as staff, counsel, or legislative aide on House or Senate Homeland Security, Judiciary, or Armed Services Committees, or equivalent executive branch roles at DOJ or DHS.
- Proven practitioner experience running Hill strategies, passing bills, and influencing policy to build bipartisan and bicameral coalitions.
- Genuine fluency in the culture, priorities, and operational realities of federal law enforcement and technology adoption.
- Strong strategic horsepower, a bias for action and outcomes, and exceptional relationship-mapping and coordination skills.
Nice to have
- Experience tying federal engagement directly to business results and agency adoption.
- Familiarity with AI-powered software, body-worn cameras, or public safety technology ecosystems.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and 401k with employer match
- Discretionary paid time off
- Paid parental leave for all
- Medical, dental, and vision plans
- Fitness programs
- Emotional and mental wellness support
- Learning and development programs
Job details
- Base pay range: $180,000 — $250,000 USD
- Total compensation structure includes base pay, bonus, and stock awards.
