About the opportunity
- SGS is seeking a Field Technician to collect samples, conduct observations, and inspect products or raw materials for laboratory analysis.
- This role operates under immediate supervision and involves gathering samples from transfers, preparing materials, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Collects samples as product and or raw materials are transferred to containers, vessels, barges, trucks, and/or rail.
- Ensures sample containers and related paperwork are accurately labeled with identifying data, location, date, and time.
- Delivers samples to the laboratory for analysis and performs sample preparation, reduction, and division to appropriate sizes.
- Performs sample screening and/or other related physical tests while maintaining organized and clean equipment.
- Ensures all relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and complies with local and federal safety processes and procedures.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- No prior experience required, unless mandated by state law.
- Valid and current driver’s license may be required if driving a company vehicle.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) if required.
- Ability to obtain a 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate.
Job details
- Schedule: Day shift, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with potential for some overtime.
- Travel: Local day travel may be required, along with occasional overnight travel.
