About the opportunity
Clutch builds AI agents that work on behalf of credit unions, handling collections, originations, fraud step-up, and member activation using our Agents Platform (TypeScript, NestJS, our agent SDK, MCP, Temporal, promptfoo).
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you serve as one of two engineers on an agent, taking it from sold to live and performing at a specific credit union.
You participate in discovery, build core banking and loan integrations, tune agent behavior, run live testing, and own outcomes through go-live and early production.
You write production code weekly in our monorepo alongside pod members, making judgment calls directly with customers while embedding field learnings back into the platform.
Key responsibilities
- Ship your first production change to a live agent and understand member call flows end-to-end within your first month.
- Own the technical side of a credit union implementation end-to-end within three months, running eval and tuning loops and contributing reusable platform capabilities.
- Take one net-new agent from sold to live at its first credit union, write implementation playbooks for the AI Ops team, and shape future agent development within six months.
- Collaborate directly with customers during discovery, live testing, and go-live sessions, flying out when an on-site presence is required.
- Write robust production code in our monorepo for integrations, modules, and agent prompts, tools, and evals.
- Balance code-quality judgment under deadline pressure, handling technical debt deliberately and maintaining secure, tenant-scoped access.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably in SaaS or Fintech.
- Strong senior TypeScript and Node.js backend experience in a large codebase using NestJS, CQRS, schema-validated boundaries, and dependency injection.
- Proven experience with integration and API engineering, including secure service-to-service endpoints, third-party APIs, webhooks, and legacy banking systems.
- Solid security and auth judgment, including OAuth, machine-to-machine auth, tenant-scoped access, secrets handling, and preventing PII in logs.
- Strong customer presence and communication skills to make and own technical recommendations directly with credit union leadership.
- Eval discipline for non-deterministic systems, with a genuine appetite for LLM agents and treating system prompts like code.
- US-based residency with the willingness and ability to travel approximately 20% of the time on short notice.

- Voice and telephony experience using LiveKit or Twilio.
- Experience with Temporal or event-driven orchestration.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Core banking or Loan Origination System (LOS) integration experience.
- Credit union or banking domain knowledge.
