About the opportunity

  • SGS is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to safely conduct analysis and reporting of various products, including crude oil, fuel oils, middle distillates, petroleum, petrochemicals, LPG and LNG gases, and lubricants for the Natural Resources and Industries and Environment sectors.
  • This is a hands-on bench role requiring the safe execution of laboratory testing, equipment maintenance, and adherence to internal standards, policies, procedures, and safety techniques.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on laboratory analysis working on the bench.
  • Complete all applicable laboratory reports and prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Understand and keep current with all laboratory analysis methods, safety practices, and reporting techniques.
  • Assist with the maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • TWIC (Required).
  • Good organization skills, detail-oriented, and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner (Required).
  • Ability to work in a routine, repetitive, fast-paced work environment, stand for long periods, and work with all chemicals, petrochemicals, and petroleum products (Required).
  • Ability to interpret instructions in oral, written, diagram, electronic, or schedule form and act according to SGS standards of ethics and integrity (Required).

Nice to have

  • Associate Degree in a science discipline.
  • 1 year of experience working in a laboratory setting.

For Crude Assay Technician

Previous experience in crude oil assay distillation per ASTM D2892 and ASTM D5236.

For Crude Assay Technician

Working proficiency of ASTM D4052, D5002, D97, D5853, UOP 163, and D4294.

  • Ability to read and interpolate applicable data and tables, interpret graphs and control charts, complete raw data sheets, and compute rates, ratios, percents, and material quantities.
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources and evaluate relevance as pertains to crude assay trending properties.

  • Physical demands: Constantly stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk/hear, and taste/smell; frequently move or traverse; occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift/carry/push or pull up to 25 lbs.
