About the opportunity
Join Axon and the Axon 911 team, bringing together Prepared and Carbyne to create the only platform combining modern 911 infrastructure with an AI intelligence layer.
We are seeking a Principal Hardware Systems Architect as a founding leader within the Axon 911 hardware team to own system architecture and technical integration across electrical, RF, mechanical, thermal, and power domains.
You will define technical standards, architecture, and engineering processes to design, validate, and scale mission-critical hardware to mass production.
Partnering closely with EE, RF, Software, and ME leads, you will drive cross-functional design decisions, establish system requirements, and resolve competing engineering constraints.
Key responsibilities
- Develop system architecture considering industrial design, electrical design, RF integration, mechanical design, software, and product management, utilizing block diagrams and interaction diagrams.
- Analyze power, thermal, and computational budget constraints to develop solutions balancing performance, size, and cost while leading concept studies with internal and external teams.
- Write, vet, and manage system requirements with testable design targets, maintaining traceability from PRD through V&V.
- Lead cross-discipline design reviews, provide technical direction, and build stakeholder buy-in to resolve competing engineering constraints.
- Own the system-level verification and validation strategy, perform risk analysis, and carry technical accountability for program schedule, risk, and executive-level decisions.
- Partner with ODM/JDM and manufacturing teams on DFM/DFA, engineering builds, production readiness, and the system-level certification strategy across U.S. and international standards.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of hardware engineering experience with deep expertise in at least two of electrical, RF, or mechanical engineering, and strong working knowledge of the third.
- Proven experience owning system architecture, cross-disciplinary technical decisions, and judgment to resolve competing engineering constraints for complex hardware.
- Track record of taking compact, connected, battery-powered hardware from concept through mass production, including EVT/DVT/PVT, certification, and manufacturing ramp.
- Deep experience across RF/antenna integration, power architecture, thermal management, EMI/EMC, shielding, enclosure design, and mechanical tolerances.
- Experience developing system requirements, validation plans, and working with ODM/JDM or contract manufacturing partners through development and production.
- Familiarity with hardware design, simulation, testing, and lifecycle tools such as Altium/Cadence, SolidWorks/Creo/NX, RF and electrical test equipment, thermal tools, and PLM/BOM systems.
- Strong ability to communicate technical risk to senior leadership and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Flexibility to travel domestically up to 50% of the time, as needed, to support the team.
Nice to have
- Experience establishing standards and processes needed to scale hardware engineering teams.
- Full-time remote eligibility evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Legal eligibility to work in a firearms environment.
Benefits
- Competitive base salary of $157,950.00 - $242,190.00, annual bonus, and company equity.
