As an AI Engineer at Jeeves, you will own whole workflows from end to end, deciding how to build, ship, measure, and continuously improve them.
Key responsibilities
- Design agentic and LLM-based systems combining extraction, retrieval, reasoning, and tool use for multi-step work with human-in-the-loop points.
- Write design docs, make build-vs-buy and model choices, and set success metrics for owned workflows.
- Build production-grade LLM pipelines including prompt design, structured outputs, validation, fallbacks, and confidence scoring.
- Integrate AI services cleanly with backend systems via clear API contracts, retries, and per-customer data isolation.
- Manage cost, latency, and model selection across different workflow steps.
- Build evaluation sets and automated evals to catch regressions when prompts, models, or data change.
- Instrument AI components with logging, tracing, dashboards, alerts, and audit trails meeting regulated financial standards.
- Set patterns, shared tooling, and practices while reviewing peers' AI system designs.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building and operating LLM or AI-powered systems in production.
- Track record of owning a large system or workflow end to end from scoping and design through launch and iteration.
- Hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered applications using APIs such as Anthropic or OpenAI, including structured outputs and evaluation.
- Experience designing agentic or multi-step AI workflows involving tool use, orchestration, and human review steps.
- Strong proficiency in Python with backend fundamentals in REST APIs, relational databases like PostgreSQL, async patterns, and a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Experience with observability for AI systems including logging, tracing, dashboards, and quality monitoring.
- Professional fluency in English, written and spoken.
