About the opportunity
Jeeves is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the backend systems powering its stablecoin-native financial platform.
You will work across payments, cards, spend management, and compliance infrastructure serving thousands of companies across 35 countries.
This role focuses on backend engineering while requiring the integration of AI-powered features and the fluent use of AI development tools in production systems.
This is a full-time, fully remote position (#LI-REMOTE) offering the opportunity to work on complex global financial infrastructure with a globally distributed team.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable backend services processing financial transactions across 20+ countries.
- Write clean, testable, production-quality code in Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript and participate in design and code reviews.
- Build and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs using gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
- Design and optimize relational and non-relational database schemas, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
- Own backend features end-to-end from technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Integrate LLM API calls and AI-generated outputs safely into backend services with proper validation and fallbacks.
- Use AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Cursor fluently in your daily workflow.
- Implement security best practices, structured logging, distributed tracing, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Collaborate globally with engineering, product, compliance, and data teams across multiple time zones.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Fluent in English with professional proficiency required for daily global collaboration.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL schema design and query optimization.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure like AWS, GCP, or Azure, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party APIs reliably in production with error handling and observability.
- Comfortable using AI tools for everyday engineering work and integrating LLM API outputs into backend services.
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or regulated industries like KYC/AML and PCI-DSS.
- Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese for collaboration with LATAM teammates, customers, and partners.
- Prior experience at a startup or high-growth scale-up building in ambiguity.
- Experience with multi-currency systems or cross-border payment processing.
- Familiarity with message queue systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
