About the opportunity

At Axon, our mission is to Protect Life, exploring society's most critical safety and justice issues through an ecosystem of devices and cloud software.

We are seeking an Embedded Application Software Engineer to join our high-impact engineering team in developing embedded software for next-generation public safety products such as body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, and wireless microphones.

This role is based out of our Boston, MA or Seattle, WA offices and follows a hybrid schedule.

Team members work onsite Tuesday through Friday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, subject to approved accommodations.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded applications, network configurations, supporting systems, and libraries while interfacing with cloud and firmware services.
  • Set a high technical bar by leading architecture, design, and code reviews for current and future products.
  • Collaborate across Product Management, Design, and Engineering teams to create integrated, customer-focused solutions.
  • Build software adhering to rigorous standards for quality, stability, and latency in mission-critical environments.
  • Identify and integrate the latest open-source technologies to meet product requirements.
  • Improve software engineering processes, including long-term thinking, sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups.
  • Mentor junior software engineers and lead small teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience in C/C++, Go, Python, and/or another systems programming language.
  • Experience with embedded development.
  • 5+ years of experience writing unit, integration, and/or system-level tests.
  • 2+ years of experience mentoring junior team members and/or leading small teams.
  • Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, run-time analysis, object-oriented design, and code quality verification.
  • Some roles may require legal eligibility to work in a firearms environment.

Nice to have

  • Networking knowledge such as TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and tunneling to support diverse network configurations.

Base Pay Range

$141,000 — $225,600 USD.
