About the opportunity
Clutch builds AI agents that work on behalf of credit unions, handling collections
, originations, fraud step-up, and member activation using our Agents Platform built with TypeScript, NestJS, our own agent SDK, MCP, Temporal, and promptfoo.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you are one of two engineers on an agent, taking it from sold to live and performing at a specific credit union.
You participate in discovery sessions, build core banking and loan system integrations, author and tune agent behavior, run live tests, and own the go-live and initial production phase, which includes roughly 20% travel with one- to two-week stretches around kickoffs and go-lives.
Key responsibilities
- Ship your first production change to a live agent and understand end-to-end member call flows through the Agents Platform within your first month.
- Own the technical side of one credit union implementation end to end, including core and LOS integration, configuration, testing, and go-live within three months.
- Run the evaluation and tuning loop for your agent using golden transcripts, rubric judges, and regression suites.
- Take one net-new agent from sold to live at its first credit union and author the implementation playbook within six months.
- Write production TypeScript and Node.js backend code in a large codebase using NestJS, CQRS, schema-validated boundaries, and dependency injection.
- Build secure service-to-service integrations, third-party APIs, webhooks, and legacy banking system connections.
- Apply strong security and auth judgment regarding OAuth, machine-to-machine auth, tenant-scoped access, and sensitive member data.
- Demonstrate customer presence by leading technical discussions and recommendations with credit union leadership.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably in SaaS and/or Fintech.
- Senior-level TypeScript and Node.js backend experience in large codebases using NestJS or similar modern frameworks.
- Proven expertise in integration and API engineering with secure service-to-service endpoints, webhooks, and third-party systems.
- Strong foundation in security, authentication, OAuth, machine-to-machine auth, and handling sensitive data under consumer-contact regulations.
- Exceptional customer-facing communication skills with the ability to provide expert technical recommendations and make independent calls in the room.
- Code-quality judgment under deadline pressure with the ability to manage technical debt deliberately.
- Genuine appetite for LLM agents, non-deterministic system evaluation, and reading system prompts as code.
- Based in the US and able to travel on short notice (roughly 20% average travel).
Nice to have
- Voice and telephony experience including LiveKit or Twilio
- Temporal or event-driven orchestration experience
- Python programming experience
- Core banking or Loan Origination System (LOS) integration experience
- Credit union or banking domain knowledge
