About the opportunity
Join Axon on our mission to Protect Life and drive real change by leading our Platform Services organization as Senior Director, Software Engineering.
In this role, you will own the core infrastructure platform that all Axon cloud services depend on for deployment, provisioning, and maintenance, including IaC, compute, networking, and observability.
You will set the strategic direction, ensure end-to-end reliability and security, and lead globally distributed engineering teams through an important phase of growth and AI-driven transformation.
This position is based out of our Seattle Office and follows a hybrid work schedule. Team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, subject to approved workplace accommodations.
Key responsibilities
- Define the long-term technical strategy, architecture, and critical technical decisions for the core infrastructure platform
- Deliver highly reliable, secure, and scalable systems that provide a delightful developer experience
- Partner with peer engineering leaders, Product Management, and Security to align long-term strategy with roadmaps and commitments
- Lead the transformation of software engineering practices by coaching engineers into AI-native technical leaders
- Build, lead, and develop a team of engineering managers and technical leads while scaling the engineering hiring bar
- Cultivate a culture of candor, accountability, continuous learning, and strong global team engagement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent highly technical field
- 15+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including experience leading managers of managers
- Hands-on experience growing software development organizations that build large-scale distributed systems and running cloud services at scale on AWS or Azure
- Deep domain expertise in modern Infrastructure-as-Code technologies, compute, networking, observability, and developer platforms
- Hands-on experience applying AI in engineering workflows to evaluate effectiveness, manage cost, and drive adoption at scale
- Proven results managing ambiguity, organizational change, and competing priorities across globally distributed teams

Base Pay Range
$219,750 — $351,600 USD
- Location: Seattle, WA, USA (Hybrid)
- Reports to: Vice President, Platform Services
