About the opportunity
Launch Potato is seeking a hands-on Applied Data Scientist to build the models that decide which carrier each auto insurance shopper sees on our click wall and manage the buying models behind our media spend.
You will be responsible for matching users to the carrier most likely to convert them and putting carrier conversion data to work in production.
This is a remote-first role operating primarily on East Coast hours, though the company is headquartered in South Florida with a team across 18 countries.
You will frame problems directly with the business, find your own data, and stay with the model through deployment and monitoring, working alongside a production-focused ML engineer.
Key responsibilities
- Run our insurance marketplace media buying independently by day 60.
- Build click wall serving that matches each user to the right carrier.
- Implement carrier conversion data into production models.
- Scale automated marketplace bidding from proof of concept.
- Develop approaches for repeat users and sparse sessions.
- Maintain production models that resist drift and changing objectives.
- Deliver model outputs that the business trusts and uses without rework.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on applied data science with measurable business impact.
- Experience driving paid media decisions such as spend, bidding, or ad serving with your models.
- Ability to explain resume projects down to the loss function and architecture choice, including neural network fundamentals.
- Experience handling late labels, sparse features, or drift while accounting for how bids shape training data.
- End-to-end ownership of models from data sourcing through deployment and monitoring.
- Expert proficiency in Python and SQL.
Nice to have
- Experience with real ad budget spent in live auctions.
- Background in large-scale ranking or recommendation systems.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical partners in plain terms.
- Experience designing for auction feedback loops, selection bias, and exploration.
- Hands-on neural network work such as embeddings of text, creative, or user behavior.
Benefits
- Base salary range of $175,000 to $200,000 per year, paid semi-monthly.
- Profit-sharing bonus.
- Competitive benefits package.
- Performance-driven compensation with future increases based on company and personal performance.
